We are very pleased to report that CR&DALL Deputy Director Muir Houston is member of the University of Glasgow team that has been funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in order to undertake a study of HE pedagogy in Algeria to improve quality and effectiveness with a focus on developing student-centred learning. The team also includes Willie McGuire and Ines Alves.
The timely and provocative articles by Shirley Walters and Han Soonghee in PIMA Bulletin No 26 raise fundamental questions about what kind of society we should aspire towards, and the role of adult learning in achieving such a society.
The Centre for Sustainable, Healthy and Learning Cities and Neighbourhoods (SHLC) is very pleased to be welcoming Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow and the former Head of Urban Affairs and Regulatory Policy Divisions at the OECD, Josef Konvitz, to present a guest lecture on 20 November entitled The Future of Sustainable Neighbourhoods.

Adult Education in New Zealand has been in a cycle of hope and despair for many years. There were significant cuts to funding in 2010 and the sector has not been greatly valued. However, a new coalition government was elected in 2017 has breathed new life into the sector with the promise of new policy settings and a five-year Tertiary Education Strategy that acknowledges the role that the ACE sector can play. This session will outline the past, present and possible future shape of ACE in New Zealand and the accompanying challenges and opportunities.
Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) is the leading international event for the smart city sector, a key meeting point for experts and leaders of the world’s most innovative cities, companies, research centers, and international organizations. Over 25,000 professional visitors are expected, with over 1,000 exhibitors, along with high-level representatives from more than 700 cities and over 400 international speakers that will share their vision on how to build a more sustainable and livable urban future.
The Fourth International Conference on Learning Cities, was jointly organized by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UiL) and the Municipality of Medellín; during the 2-day Conference from 1-3 October 2019, there were around 650 conference participants, including 50 mayors, as well as government representatives and experts in the field of education.
We would like to invite you to the VINCE Final Learning Symposium. We will discuss with key invited speakers how to improve access to higher education for newcomers and refugees through validation procedures, and present real success cases.
