Driving innovations in food security will be top of the agenda this month at the next N8 Industry Innovation Forum event.
Scotland annually discards more than half a million tonnes of food waste every year, much of which would be edible. At the same time, food insecurity remains a short term problem and a long term strategic issue over the globe.
Many congratulations to Alan Britton who has heard that a bid entitled "Don’t waste our Future! - Building a European alliance of youngsters against food waste and for new models of sustainable development and consumption in the EYD 2015” has been funded.
Citizen Science 2015 is the inaugural conference and gathering of the newly formed Citizen Science Association (CSA). This event is a pre-conference of the 2015 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Annual Meeting.
Agricultural R&D spend fell in 13 African countries between 2008 and 2011, according to The Atlas of African Agriculture Research and Development published on 30 June.
The map, produced by the Washington-based International Food Policy Research Institute, shows that agricultural research investments in many sub-Saharan African countries are “well below the levels required”.
On the 4th December 2014 in London the first conference in a series across the UK and Ireland entitled ‘Planning for Climate Change’ will take place. The key focus of the day is to debate and discuss the key issues that face communities across the country when it comes to adapting to climate change and addressing the problems and opportunities that climate change brings.
NERC is inviting proposals for consortia projects requesting funds between £1M and £2.5M (80% FEC), and of up to three years' duration, which will address the objectives of the programme as stated in the announcement of opportunity.
The EU-Africa High Level Policy Dialogue on Science, Technology and Innovation has chosen to focus on food and nutrition security, and sustainable agriculture. An expert group has been established to produce an operational roadmap that can be translated into actions to be funded by all the stakeholders concerned including the European Commission, the African Union Commission, the European and African countries or the private sector.
