We are very pleased to report that CR&DALL core member Barbara Read is assuming the joint editorship of the British Educational Research Journal (BERJ), generally regarded as on the most prestigious journals in the field of Education in the UK.

Barbara is a sociologist of education, with an interdisciplinary background in history, social anthropology, and women's studies. Currently Reader in Gender and Social Inequalities at the School of Education, University of Glasgow, she was previously Senior Lecturer at the Department of Education, Roehampton University (2007-12) and Research Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies in Education, London Metropolitan University (2001-2007).

Qualifications include a PhD in Sociology from the University of Bristol and an MA in Women's Studies from the University of Kent at Canterbury, and BA (Hons) in Ancient History and Social Anthropology from University College London.

Current Roles:

Barbara is currently PI for an ESRC-funded project entitled Gendered Journeys: The Trajectories of STEM students through Higher Education and Into Employment, in India and Rwanda. This project is due to end in December 2023.

The announcement from the British Educational Research Association (BERA) was as follows:

BERA is delighted to announce that, following a competitive recruitment process, a new editorial team has been appointed for the British Educational Research Journal (BERJ). From January 2024, the team will comprise six editors: Ming Cheng (Sheffield Hallam University), Kate Hoskins (Brunel University London), Alison MacKenzie (Queen’s University Belfast), Barbara Read (University of Glasgow), Billy Wong (University of Reading) and Yuwei Xu (University of Nottingham).

The composition of  full team has special significance for Glasgow and CR&DALL since Professor Cheng was formerly a member of CR&DALL when a lecturer in Academic Development, and both Dr MacKenzie and Dr Xu hold doctorates in Education from this university.

We wish them all the very best in their new adventure.
