The 54th Adult Learning Australia conference will be held on the 13–14 June 2017 in Hobart, Tasmania. Our conference is in partnership with LINC Tasmania and will explore the different ways lifelong learning changes lives.

Our conference program will include dynamic and diverse keynote speakers, sector leaders and practitioners, who will present a range of topics through presentations, sessions and workshops.

Keynote speakers

Dr Tony Birch – Victoria University
Tony is a prominent academic, poet and writer. He won the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Indigenous Writing 2016. Tony is now the first recipient of the Dr Bruce McGuinness Indigenous Research Fellowship.

Bronwyn Lee – Foundation for Young Australians
Bronwyn is passionate about redefining the role of young people in our society, ensuring they are prepared for the changing future and also how the not-for-profit sector can drive innovation in Australia.

Marcia Howard – Singer, songwriter and music educator
Marcia is a triple Aria Award winning member of the band Goanna with her brother Shane Howard. Marcia has performed with James Taylor, Carlos Santana and Archie Roach. Marcia combines performing with her work as a music educator.

Dr Peggy Brown – CEO – Mental Health Commission
Dr Brown has been involved in mental health leadership and advocacy roles for 30 years. She has a deep understanding of the many challenges of meeting the social and health needs of people with mental health and substance use issues

Dr Tracey Ollis – Deakin University
Dr Ollis has published both nationally and internationally in the areas of community development and adult education. Her presentation will involve sharing stories of formal and informal adult learning in Neighbourhood Houses.

Dr Tony Brown
Dr Tony Brown is an Associate Professor in the field of adult, community and higher education. He is the editor of the Australian Journal of Adult Learning, which promotes critical thinking and research in the field of adult learning.

Our conference will be held in Hobart during Dark Mofo. Dark Mofo is Mona's mid-winter festival, which celebrates public art, food, film, music, light and noise. This means it's a great time to visit Hobart but you will need to book soon!
