Vocational training counteracts and helps prevent early leaving from education and training

Vocational education and training (VET) can help attract young people with different abilities and learning backgrounds to education. It also plays a decisive role in retaining them in the education system or reintegrating them after a drop-out experience.

Recent datasets contain a wealth of qualitative information on young school leavers’ and returners’ trajectories and their individual motives: What type of education/training programme have they left, and why? How many of them return to education? How many choose VET pathways? And how many graduate eventually?

How do we teach adults to read and write? Seminar by Diane Gardner

On 31 March, Diane Gardner, Senior Lecturer at the City of Glasgow College, conducted a workshop at the University of Glasgow. Diane outlined her system of synethetic phonics, based on the critical pedagogy of Paulo Freire, that she uses in her teaching practice.  She is currently in working in partnership with the BBC Skillswise programme.

The lively and informative workshop was well attended by literacy practitioners, graduate students and faculty.

Call for Papers - Studia paedagogica - Monothematic Issue on Intergenerational Learning

The 2016 monothematic issue of Studia paedagogica will focus on intergenerational learning. Abstracts of between 200 and 400 words should be sent to [email protected] by 15 October 2015. The deadline for full texts is 15 December 2015. Papers will be submitted to a peer review process. This issue will be published in July 2016, edited by Milada Rabušicová and Petr Novotný.
